31 Jan Can You Grow Marijuana In Las Vegas?
As of 2018 it is legal to buy marijuana for recreational use in Las Vegas, as long as you are buying it from a licensed and regulated dispensary. As long as you can present an ID with your picture on it and you are over 21 years of age, you can buy up to one ounce of legal marijuana. If you have a medical marijuana card you can purchase larger amounts, and you only have to be 18 in order to buy. We went over where you can smoke weed in Las Vegas in another post, and pointed out that even though you can buy it, there are very few places that you can legally smoke it. You have to be inside of a private residence in order to use any weed product, so for the time being it is difficult for tourists to stay within the laws of the state unless they know people who live here. If you are a resident, there are even more regulations and laws that you should know about, specifically regarding growing marijuana. Just because it is legal to purchase weed now does not mean that you can produce your own, unless you are within certain very specific guidelines. So lets get into what the laws in Las Vegas say about growing weed.
- You cannot grow marijuana within 25 miles of a dispensary. Lets face it, that means that you cannot grow your own marijuana anywhere in Las Vegas. There is pretty much no residence inside of the city limits that is not within 25 miles of a licensed dispensary, so forget about growing your own if you live here. Yes, the cops will still bust grow houses using all the same methods they used to, looking for the same clues. If you have unusually high water or electrical bills for your area and your windows are covered in one room, they know you are growing in there. Don’t risk it when it is so easy to just buy from the dispensary up the street.
- You cannot grow near windows. Even if you do live in a rural area that isn’t within 25 miles of a dispensary, you still can’t grow your plants within view of the public. This means that you cannot have weed growing near windows, or where anyone from outside can see in. That means pretty much no natural sunlight and all of the electric bills that come with growing using fake lights. Once again, it is just easier to go to the dispensary and buy.
- You can only have 6 plants per person, or 12 total plants in a residence. Don’t think you are going to be able to operate an illegal grow house and claim that you didn’t know that it is illegal to have 50 plants in a room. The cops know exactly how much weed a typical person can use themselves, and any amount over it that you are growing is going to tip them off that you are growing for sale and not for personal use. That’s illegal, and they will bust you for it.
So you pretty much can’t grow weed under any circumstances in Las Vegas, and you can only grow a little bit under specific conditions outside of Las Vegas.
